# What is a default superannuation fund? (Australia)

All employers must must nominate a fund that they will pay their super into if employees can't or don't choose their own fund. See the [ATO websit](https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/Super-for-employers/Setting-up-super/Determine-your-employer-nominated-fund-(default-fund)/)e for more information.

**So which super fund should you choose as an employer?**

Many founders often simply choose their own fund because at least it's one they know. Following this [recommendation from the Barefoot Investor](https://barefootinvestor.com/a-super-fund-option-with-zero-fees/) about their Zero fees, we're also seeing employers j[oin up to Hostplus' Balanced investment fund](https://hostplus.com.au/super/join).
